Coleslaw salad

Updated: Oct 1, 2021

A simple traditional coleslaw recipe. Make a homemade coleslaw that is as good as the supermarket ones or even the restaurant ones. Enjoy a good coleslaw in your own home. This is an excellent side dish for meals, BBQs and picnics. This recipe is ones of my own and I guarantee you that you won’t be disappointed. There’s many ways a coleslaw can be made but I prefer this one because it’s not only delicious but it also comes out nice and creamy.

Let me not hold you any longer and let’s get started on the recipe.

Ingredients

  1. 1/2 white cabbage

  2. 3 carrots

  3. 1/2 of an apple (red apple)

  4. 3 spring onions

  5. A pinch of white pepper

  6. A pinch of black pepper

  7. A pinch of salt

  8. 50g or mayonnaise

  9. 50g salad cream

Food preparation utensil:

  1. Chopping board

  2. Chef’s knife

  3. Large bowl

  4. Tablespoon/ fork

Method

Mise-en-place to be applied (preparation of all your ingredients and utensils).

Firstly- thinly slice your cabbage, carrots and spring onion. Then grate your apple. Add them in a large bowl and add the salt, white pepper and black pepper.

Secondly- add the mayonnaise and salad cream and mix well until everything is well coated. your coleslaw is now ready to be served. I would recommend to put it in the fridge to let it chill for few minutes, this is because I believe that it taste better when its chilled.

Food allergy/ substitute

For those who are lactose intolerance you can make your own dressing for your coleslaw. You can add a salad dressing or make your own dressing instead of putting salad cream and mayonnaise.

For the dressing mix 3 tbs of virgin olive oil, 1/2 tsp of mixed herbs, 1 tbsp of white sugar, 3/4 cup of apple cider vinegar in a bowl. Then add the dressing to the prepared ingredients. Enjoy!
